Haier Heat Pumps

Haier has an impressive range of heat pumps in the market.

Haier heat pumps come in three sizes:

  • 200L - suitable for 1-2 people (but with the rebates, it actually works out more expensive than a 250L)

  • 250L - suitable for 2-4 people

  • 330L - suitable for 4, 5 people and perhaps more

These three sizes are all-in-one units. Haier has a range of split units as well, but in practice we see little demand for these.

We’ve analysed the entire heat pump market and Haier’s units tick all the boxes: they are reliable, affordable and low maintenance. The last thing we want is to install a cheap and cheerful unit, only for a customer to call us with problems in three years time.

Let’s go through each of the main things customers look at with heat pumps.

1. Cost

Haier’s units range from $2,500 to around $2,850 ex GST based on the size of the unit. Depending on your margin, this can mean a fully installed unit for around $2,200 to $2,600 payable by the customer (after rebates, including GST).

Haier units are at the lower end of the heat pump mid-market. They are more expensive than poor quality units like Ecogenica, Emerald or Chromagen, but they are more affordable than other mid-market units like Rheem, Rinnai and iStore.

2. Reliability and Warranty

Haier units have a strong track record of reliability.

Haier units score well on review websites like www.productreview.com.au, from hundreds of reviews. The units score 4.9 whereas the Rolls Royce of heat pumps (Reclaim units) also score 4.9. It should be noted however that Haier have a cash back offer of a $200 gift card if a customer leaves a review on ProductReview after installation. The review can be either positive or negative (it’s illegal to only offer it for positive reviews), but given that customers are likely to have a positive experience in the first few months, this skews reviews towards the positive.

Haier has a strong warranty on their units: 7 years on the unit and 5 years labour.

3. Refrigerant

The Haier Monoblocks use Propane (R290) as a refrigerant.

4. Delivery

Heat Pump Trade doesn’t make any margin on delivery of units. Our logistics partners can supply a heat pump usually the next day at a cost of $220 inc GST. Alternatively, if the installation is not urgent, units can be delivered for free.

Other Factors

  • Haier’s maintenance requirements are line with the rest of the market.

  • Noise – the unit operates at 43dB, at the lower end of the market. The 330L unit is rated at 47dB.

  • Tank Recovery time – at around 1 litre per minute. This is consistent with the rest of the market

  • Place of Manufacture – the units are manufactured in China and Haier is a Chinese owned company. Haier acquired Fisher & Paykel in 2012.
